We love to see families attend together, and as dental professionals we believe in preventative dental care and encourage our patients to bring their children to the Practice from an early age, and regularly once their first teeth erupt. Seeing their parents also have a check-up can help alleviate a child’s apprehension.
Studies have shown that the younger your child is when attending their first dental appointment, the more likely they are to have a positive experience and to grow up unafraid of the dentist, needing less intervention as an adult. Our team will take special care of your child to make them feel safe and cared for. We may ask Mum or Dad to sit on the chair and reassure their little one whilst we conduct a gentle and reassuring examination.
Treating a child from a young age allows us to provide preventative care, find problems quickly and spot signs that orthodontic treatment may be needed in future.
Children’s appointments are like those of an adult. However, there are some safe and effective treatments we often suggest for children whilst they are growing as preventative care:
- Fluoride application. This is painted onto the surface of your child’s teeth to help mineralise them and safeguard your child’s teeth from developing decay.
- Fissure sealants. We can apply these to the biting surfaces of your child’s teeth to prevent decay.
Children under the age of 18 with a parent on our Membership Plan are seen without charge.
Once children turn 18, their lives can change considerably, with some leaving home and attending university. Many can struggle to find a dentist and we encourage them to stay with us on one of our plans that start at £8.17 per month.
With this, they can continue the excellent care with their family dentist, choosing to be seen when convenient, such as holidays, and we will still be there after long gap years.
